Penalty!
By One Switch
On-line, PC Windows and Mac - Priory Woods School (freeware)
Penalty! is a very simple cause and effect game, and the perfect starting point for absolute beginners. You can use a switch, or point and click device, to take five shots against a cheerful goalie.
Apart from the optional switch scanning mode, the game is pure luck, which is not far off what real penalty shoot-outs are like in the World Cup.
Matching Pairs - World Cup 2010 Edition
By One Switch
PC Windows - Graeme's Free Games (freeware)
As I write this, teams are slowly being pared down and being given their marching orders from the 2010 World Cup. It's a nerve wracking time for many football fans.
For those looking for a less stressful World Cup themed diversion, Graeme Singh's highly accessible matching pairs World Cup gives you a bit more control over which teams go out first.
Qoccer
By Bill (R&D, SpecialEffect)
XBOX Live - Victor OrtegaQoccer is a turn-based football game in the same vein as Subbuteo, but with less restrictions and more immediate fun.
Playing in either 2 player mode or against the CPU, both teams are given 30 seconds to set up all of their players' direction of movement (indicated by the arrows) for the next passage of play. When both teams are ready, with a press of a button, they all fly into action at once. Contact with opposing players is allowed, meaning there is no stop-start element, other than with the gameplay mechanism itself.
Football Manager Live
By Bill (R&D, SpecialEffect)
PC - Sports Interactive/Sega
Football Manager Live is not simply a direct transfer of the FM 2009 game to an online version. It is focused on the idea of online game play and built out from that. This has resulted in a standalone game, which offers a new experience from the offline versions.
Fifa 10
By Bill (R&D, SpecialEffect)

XBox 360/ PS3 - EA
Sports
Fifa 10 feels like six or seven
different games at times. It offers a whole new method of playing
with its ‘Virtual Pro’ play setting based on it’s ‘Be A Pro’ game
method. Instead of controlling all eleven of your team’s players,
which requires a vast amount of timing, reactions and button
combinations as you pass the ball from player to
player.
Virtua Subbuteo

PC (opens in a separate window)
- Hugues (aka iougs)
A virtual version of the ultimate football simulation game before
Fifa, PES and friends came along. Subbuteo empasises the
tactical element of football giving you the time to plan and
carry out moves at a slower pace, due to the games format of
taking turns with your opponent.
This is a beta version and is consequently a little rough around
the edges, but the gameplay can be just as fun and exciting
as it's more developed counterparts.
Gameplay requires use of both the keyboard and mouse, but ther is
no time limit on your moves. Select players with the mouse,
choose the direction with the left and right cursor
keys and to 'flick' use space.

MiniBall

PC (opens in a separate window) -
Ladbrokes
MiniBall is a computer version
of table football (or Foosball). You can either play two player
or against the computer, choosing from novice, semi-pro or pro
difficulty. The action is pretty speedy so it may be worth
using a cpu killer (download for free from www.cpukiller.com)
to choose the pace you want to play at.
