One Handed FPS Play - Xbox 360

As previously written about on GameBase.info the XCM Re-Mapper is a really useful tool for helping to come up with solutions for accessing PS3 or XBox 360 games in ways which can't be done when full in-game button and stick custom/re-mappable layouts are not available.

Here we look at how, when combined with a Saitek Aviator Joystick, it can allow for intuitive and comfortable one (left or right) hand only gameplay for a wide variety of different genre's of games including FPS'.

The flight stick has two modes. The first (M1) retains the button functions of a standard controller, whilst the second (M2) is very much for use with flight games only.

When using the stick in 'M1' mode we can then combine it with the XCM - Re-Mapper to create custom button and stick layouts to use with various types of games. For instance, for an FPS type game we can use the XCM to swap the default stick layout over, making the more sensitive small analog stick on top of the joystick function for look/aim and use the joystick itself for movement, giving us more accuracy for aiming. We can also move the buttons which are needed to be used quickly and ofteb e.g. fire and aim to those within reach such as the A and B button locations.

It is worth noting that here is no 'LT' button on the joystick, but the function of which (you will notice on the LED display of the XCM) is constantly 'in use' when in the 'M1' mode. This should not affect gameplay, but if it does simply re-map the LT function to a button which is not required in the game you are playing. 

The Saitek Aviator Joystick x XCM - Re-Mapper setup offers a comfortable, responsive and competitively priced one handed controller option for FPS games (amongst others) of which the two components are currently easy to get hold of.

An XCM-Re-Mapper (known as an XCM-Swapper) and Saitek Aviator Joystick are also available for PS3, but after initial testing by SpecialEffect were found not to be compatible with a similar setup. We will continue to look for an alternative, similar setup for PS3 use.

    After (much) testing, the most reliable setup at present for similar control on a PS3 we have found is a combination of the Xbox 360 version of the 'Saitek Aviator Joystick', plugged into an 'XCM Cross Battle Adapter 2.0' which is then plugged into an 'XCM Swapper.' The 'Swapper' is used for re-mapping, whilst the Cross Battle Adapter is simply used to allow the 360 flight stick to be used on a PS3.
