Electronic Soup Podcast: EuroGamer 2010

This episode of the SpecialEffect Electronic Soup Podcast features an interview between gaming podcasters The GameOverCast, and Mick Donegan, founder of SpecialEffect. It took place at the mainstream gaming event, EuroGamer Expo 2010, where we were very proud to exhibit some alternative access set-ups for driving games.

Game: Live for Speed (LFS.net) played by eye-control.
Technogy used: Alea Technologies IntelliGaze attached to a SmartBox PowerBox touch-screen PC.
Notes: We used a pure-mouse set-up for driving, with an assistant on hand to navigate menus and to make sure things went smoothly. Players raced on the Kyoto oval ring.
Game: Live for Speed (LFS.net) played via head movements.
Technology used: Natural Point Smart Nav4 hands-free mouse and Windows PC.
Notes: We used a similar game set-up as before, but this time needing to assist people in positioning a silver reflective dot on their heads and in callibrating the head-tracker.
Game: Forza 3 (Team 10) played using two large switches for LEFT and RIGHT steering.
Technology used: OneSwitch.org.uk C-SID controller with Xbox 360 adapter, 2x AbleNet "Big-Red" switches, Trabasack and Xbox 360.
Notes: We used all driving assists, including auto-braking, and had a switch connected to the accelerator (out of view) constantly weighted down.
Dirt 2 and F1: 2010 (Codemasters) played using two large joysticks.
Technology used: Quasimoto Quasicon 1P controller.
Notes: One analogue stick was used for steering left and right, and the other used for accelerate and brake. We also used a Quasicon Axis 3 at the event.

Big massive cheesy grins and thumbs up go to:
Dave Banes, for his on-going support and for setting up the Access Collective.
Retro Remakes for giving us enough web-space to host the Electronic Soup Podcast on its own.
The GameOverCast for allowing us to reuse their interview.
EuroGamer for so generously donating us the floor space, and stand to put on an accessible gaming showcase to the general gaming public. Meant a lot.
