Computer Games To Help Bored Cystic Fibrosis Kids
By One Switch"Computer games which help young people with cystic fibrosis cope better with treatment, and improve monitoring of their condition, are being developed by the University of Derby.
The life-threatening, inherited disease affects more than 9,000 people in the UK. Internal organs, especially lungs and the digestive system, clog with a thick mucus making it hard to breathe and digest food. Half those with cystic fibrosis don't live past their late thirties.
University Lecturer Dr David Day -- whose four-year-old daughter, Alicia, has cystic fibrosis -- and colleague and Computer Games specialist Dr Andreas Oikonomou, developed four prototype computer games to help young people cope better with the difficult daily breathing exercises to expel mucus from their lungs. The games will also aid monitoring of lung efficiency."
Osada
By zippedyzipzang
Osada is a point-and-click game but not like Sam and Max or Monkey Island, it’s a point-and-click game in a more literal sense. You search with clicks of your mouse for objects to interact with, a click can shoot a gun out of a man’s hand, cause a plant to grow, or cause a moving train to come to a screeching halt.
In the first scene, you see the silhouette of a mountain range set against a warm evening sky. A simple beat playing out in the background. You click around, and as you do the members of a mariachi band become illuminated, as you bring one into the light you will suddenly be able to hear the instrument he’s playing. A second click will return him to the darkness and you won’t be able to hear him anymore. After you have had your fun seeing what music you can produce by skipping various band members in and out, a click on the fire that is keeping them warm will transport you to the next scene. A few screens later, you will be shooing away bearded flies in camo gear, and a few screens after that, you will be keeping a tally as three large tattoo-sporting men drink beer. On your first play through you really won’t know what you will be presented with next, and you will have real fun discovering what a click of your mouse will do next.
Light Pressure Play on PS3
By One SwitchThe video above showcases a very light pressure joystick being used alongside some switches to play Gran Turismo 5. This uses a LEPMIS PS3-SAP interface with the Low Throw Low Force Analogue Joystick and switches. This set-up could work equally well with the Ultra Light switches from Marblesoft.
Skoog Skores
By One SwitchThe latest free upgrade (1.30) to the Skoog musical instrument brings "Skores" to life. Within this new feature, you can select a song from a drop down menu, then play guided by a flow of coloured shapes. It works really well in practice and will help a lot of musicians who find traditional music scores far too difficult.
Excitingly, I hear rumours of a one-side to play musical Skores in the works. Can't wait to see and try that out.
Rugby World Cup 2011
By Jack
Xbox 360/PS3 - 501 Games
Rugby world cup 2011 is an awesome console game in which you can play as any of the teams who competed at the competition this year. As a Rugby fan myself this game is fantastic as it combines an easy learned control system with the best graphics in a Rugby game ever. Although this game is merely a prelude to the eagerly awaited Rugby 2012 ,developed by the same company, it is still very fun.
Replay Expo 2011
By One SwitchReplay was an exhausting ear-blistering pleasure. It was a privilege to run the SpecialEffect stand populated mostly with games using simplified control methods mostly from my personal geek-a-tronic stash. So what did we have?
Football Manager 12
By BillGameBase
PC - Sports Interactive/SEGA
Football Manager is a strategy game in which you are challenged to put your football theories and strategies to the test and take charge of the team of your choice and lead them to the top.
Football Manager 12 keeps up with the recent shift in direction of the franchise to make the game more accessible to those who may be less familier with the games or new to them entirely.
The interface consists of spreadsheet type layouts which can be tweaked and re-tweaked as much or as little as you like using cursor movement and single clicks. Most icons are small and some are very small, requiring accurate control of the cursor to interact with them. Some item dragging, such as moving players positions about, is used in the Tactics pages, but alternatives are available enabling gameplay to be entirly controlled using single clicks (see video below). In addition drop down menus do not require to be held open whilst you navigate them and scroll bars have up and down icons attached allowing you to scroll with individual clicks.
