Congratulations to Barrie 'One Switch' Ellis, who completed The 2010 London Marathon on Sunday. Also, a big thanks to his friend Andy (pictured with Barrie above) and Martin, who also ran on behalf of SpecialEffect.

If you would still like to sponsor Barrie and his monster effort on our behalf, there is still time so please visit his 'justgiving' page here. And to find out about what Barrie ran for and the work that SpecialEffect does, visit our site here.

Below is a BBC interview with Barrie and his friend Andy, at the half way point on Tower Bridge:

Qoccer

Qoccer Screen shot.jpgXBOX Live - Victor Ortega

Qoccer is a turn-based football game in the same vein as Subbuteo, but with less restrictions and more immediate fun.

Playing in either 2 player mode or against the CPU, both teams are given 30 seconds to set up all of their players' direction of movement (indicated by the arrows) for the next passage of play. When both teams are ready, with a press of a button, they all fly into action at once. Contact with opposing players is allowed, meaning there is no stop-start element, other than with the gameplay mechanism itself.

BlindGiRl

By One Switch
Screen shot of Blind Girl. A mostly black screen, with a cartoon girl in the middle, surrounded by concentric green rings, representing her sound waves hitting the surrounding maze.
Xbox 360 - GLPeas (80 points from the Xbox Live Indie Arcade)

Blind GiRl is refreshingly different, an Xbox 360 title that puts you in the shoes of a poetic and curious blind girl. In essence this is an atmospheric maze and puzzle game, where you cough, sing and scream to help find your way around!

It feels a little like a mix between Alice in Wonderland and Shock Headed Peter. It's well worth a download just to find out for yourself. Watch out for the eyes!

Street Fighter II - Mousou Contoller

By BillGameBase

The Mousou Controller 'Imagination Sound Game' is a keyring shaped like a mini console controller and is available in 3 different game versions: Street Fighter II, Xevious and Famista (Look out for Xevious and Famista reviews to come once I have translated the Japanese and worked out how to play them!).

The Street Fighter II device is then available in 3 colours, with each different colour containing 3 unique Street Fighter characters to play as (blue = Ken, E Honda, Guile,  red = Ryu, Blanka, Sagat, black = Dhalsim, Balrog, Chun-Li).

There are 3 game modes. The First, is simply to enjoy making a noise and playing with the sound effects (though I'm not sure this can be strictly counted as a game mode). The second is playing against an AI opponent, after which 'You Lose!' or 'You Win!' Thirdly, If you have two controllers you can 'play against' (I use this term loosely) by starting a fight at the same time and seeing who gets the win first.

The always insightful, absorbing, thorough and, not to mention, 100% philanthropic; ps3attitude.com is an essential stop for PS3 fans looking for the lastest news and insight on their favourite console.

We are delighted that they have taken such an interest in what we do and hope to achieve at SpecialEffect, that they interviewed our Director Mick Donegan and have put the resulting article and conversation up on their site.

Another Code R: A Journey into Lost Memories

By BillGameBase

Another Code R Screen Shot.jpg
Wii - Cing/Nintendo

'Read and Solve like a Mystery Novel!'

The game plays like a mixture between playing a point and click adventure game and reading a 'Whodunnit?' There is a lack of quick reactions or complicated co-ordination or dexterity required by the gameplay.

Much of the gameplay involves talking to people to gain information and clues to help solve the mystery of Ashley's mother's death. The interaction with objects and people aswell as movement around the game involves pointing the Wiimote at area of the screen and pressing the 'A' button to select them.
