Light Pressure Play on PS3

By One Switch

The video above showcases a very light pressure joystick being used alongside some switches to play Gran Turismo 5. This uses a LEPMIS PS3-SAP interface with the Low Throw Low Force Analogue Joystick and switches. This set-up could work equally well with the Ultra Light switches from Marblesoft.

PS3 Chin/Mouth Control Setup

By BillGameBase
Close up of a PS3 chin or mouth control setup, showing a PS2 controller with two micro light switches mounted to it..png

Some gamers who use their mouth, chin or tongue to play their Playstations and can interact with a standard PS3 controller
(often utilising a game's re-mapping function).

For some, however, more leverage and height on the control sticks and the option to position switches in various more 'accessible' and reachable positions is required to replicate the controller buttons, such as using Gimpgear's Chin/Mouth/Tongue Controller Setup which, aswell as having a switch interface which replicates 100% of a PS3 controllers buttons, can also include additional mounted buttons on the front of the controller as well as sip/puff controls.

Simple Joystick for more Complicated Games

By One Switch
C-SID with additional joystick box. Accessible Game Controller for switches and more.

Being able to connect a simple Atari style joystick to modern games consoles in almost anyway you like is now possible thanks to a new SpecialEffect and OneSwitch custom-built controller.

Pictured above is an Atari compatible Competition Pro joystick velcroed to a Maxess board, patched into a C-SID interface. This set-up allows up to five controls of your choice to be assigned to the simpler joystick. The wish for this came from Shaz Hossain, as he was finding a number of PS3 driving games wouldn't allow him to reconfigure the controls as he wished to his HORI Real Arcade Pro 3 arcade stick. We're hoping this prototype will do the trick for him, until the day that all driving games have fully reconfigurable controls.

One Handed FPS Play - PS3

By BillGameBase

An image showing a one handed controller setup for PS3 using a Saitek Xbox 360 flight stick, an XCM cross battle adapter 2.0 and

A short while ago we posted an article about a one handed setup for Xbox 360 to play FPS games which we created using a flight stick and an adapter which allowed you to remap a controllers buttons for easier use with complex games such as FPS'.

Here we show a similar a similar setup for PS3 play and another option below.

Setup 1:

This  setup uses a wired flight stick, the Saitek AV8R for Xbox 360. It is combined with an XCM Swapper and an XCM Cross Battle Adapter 2.0 (it is essential to use this verion). Unfortunatley the flight stick doesn't work correctly with just the XCM Swapper and is inconsistent when used just with the Cross Battle Adapter. However, when used together the result is a reliable setup for either left or right hand only use on a PS3.

Create Your Own Accessible DJ Setup: Joy2Key x Virtual DJ

By Shazmataz

Virtual DJ Screenshot.jpg

OK so here we go my 2nd blog on GameBase and it’s one that I am particularly excited about so apologies if I go into a bit too much history but hopefully you will find it interesting! If you did want to skip the long story then feel free to go to the heading “Using JoyToKey with VirtualDJ”.

As you may or may not know I have always been a big fan of music and one of the annoying things that I have found with my disability is not being able to mix music or use mixing decks (little twisty knobs and me don’t go together). However in the late 90s and early 2000s there were a few companies that started making DJing software like OTSJuke, PCDJ etc but to use these programs whilst sounding relatively good was a bit of a task as you either had to use keyboard shortcuts to access the different functions or get a mini controller which again had little twizzle knobs. So it was a bit of a YAY but also a bit of a nay.

One Handed FPS Play - Xbox 360

By BillGameBase

XBox 360

As previously written about on GameBase.info the
XCM Re-Mapper is a really useful tool for helping to come up with solutions for accessing PS3 or XBox 360 games in ways which can't be done when full in-game button and stick custom/re-mappable layouts are not available.

Here we look at how, when combined with a Saitek Aviator Joystick, it can allow for intuitive and comfortable one (left or right) hand only gameplay for a wide variety of different genre's of games including FPS'.

The flight stick has two modes. The first (M1) retains the button functions of a standard controller, whilst the second (M2) is very much for use with flight games only.

One Handed Play with an 'XCM Re-Mapper'

By BillGameBase
Fifa left hand only gameplay using a standard PS3 controller using an XCM Re-Mapper.png

PS3/XBox 360 - Farmer

Previously on the SpecialEffect accessible GameBase we featured the
XCM-Re-Mapper;  an external device which sits between your wired PS3 or XBox 360 controller and allows you to re-map the button and control stick functions.

The discovery of this excellant, reasonably priced bit of kit (thanks Barrie 'One Switch'!) warrants plenty of ongoing experimentation.

It struck us that using the device you could make accessing various different types of games (when using a standard controller) easier when using just one hand to play simply by moving some button functions around and/or swapping the controls sticks over.

Orthos - One Handed Controller

By BillGameBase
Orthros one handed controller being used on a table with a tv with a football game..png
PS3 - Lepmis

Orthros is a one handed controller which can be used with either the left or right hand to play on a Playstation 3.

The layout allows you to play games using one or both of the control sticks. One is placed on top to use with your thumb, whilst the other is positioned on the bottom and is controlled by placing the Orthros on a surface and moving the whole controller around.

Alongside the control stick on the top of the controller are what appear to be two sets of 'action' buttons as well as a d-pad. Four of the action buttons are used for their intended function and can be switched for comfortable use with the right hand (by using the ones on the left) and the left hand (by using the one on the right). The buttons on the side not being used can then be programmed to be used for Home, Start and Select. On the back of the controller are located the trigger and bumper buttons.
