Using Glove Pie for Voice Commands in Games

By Alex
Image showing Glove Pie interface..jpg

Glove Pie
is a free bit of software that lets you emulate keystrokes and mouse buttons using various different input devices. Such devices include microphone (voice input) keyboard, mouse, and even specialised controllers such as Wiimote and PS3 controllers, and many others.

With it you're able to do virtually any kind of "script" or command using your chosen input device. A simple example of this is being able to "shoot" in a football game whenever you say the word "shoot" through your microphone.

Space Ball Cosmo Dude

Space Ball Cosmo Dude is an addictive sports simulation style basketball game. Your objective is to achieve the highest score possible by shooting the ball into the basket which awards points. You have 2 min in which to do this in. Each "round" increases the minimum score required in order to move on to the next round.

Really colourful and exciting graphics make it a lot more engaging and intense. The little weird aliens also give you strange comments whenever you make a basket.

Gameplay is very simple: simply point and click where you wish to shoot the ball and the rest is taken care of. It's all about getting the correct angles. Play the game long enough and you will find yourself making shots on "autopilot" as your brain istinctively learns how to shoot. No dragging or double-click is needed; only a single left click.

Challenge your friends to beat your high score! There is no head-to-head multiplayer mode, but perhaps they may add this feature in future releases.

9 Empires

9 Empires is both a "delayed real-time" strategy browser game as well as a turn-based strategy game. You start off by choosing from 9 different races, including Elves, Underworld and Undead, each with their own unique advantages and disadvantages. After creating your main Hero, the tutorial will take you through the basics of the game. It's very easy to follow and quick to pick up on. Your goal is to become the most powerful Empire on the server and help your alliance (if you choose to have one) dominate the map.

From an accessible point of view, it may require a slightly higher level of dexterity in order to play. Mostly everything is done by mouse; the only things which require keyboard is entering numbers in certain areas (it may also be changed by clicking the arrows, but that's usually a bit tedious) and chatting with other players (very little chatting happens anyway). Dragging is also necessary in order to equip/move items and placing units into your hero's control.

Apocalyx is an RPG-based fighting game where you play as a gladiator fighting for his freedom. The game is pretty straightforward once you get used to it and I wouldn't consider it a "proper" game as it doesn't have very many dimensions.

It is entirely playable with a mouse and does not require any quick reflexes or speed. You are required to be able to drag certain items in order to sell, buy or equip them. There are no keyboard shortcuts available.

Battle Dawn

Battle Dawn is an online strategy-based browser game. The main goal of the game is to attempt to be the strongest player at the end of the era (the amount of time a map/world is playable until it ends) and to help your alliance become the strongest. This is done by creating units and conquering other players' castles and outposts, which in turn increases your score and ranking (there are many ways to boost your score). Battle Dawn is free to play, but like most games players have the option of purchasing "Tokens" to give themselves a "Boost" and thus become more powerful.
